I'm actually going to start with a doctor's appointment I had a few weeks ago. As most of you know, I'd been having bad headaches for quite awhile and decided to make an appointment to see my doctor after I missed a few days of work and the headaches spread to my neck and upper back. He prescribed Topamax (yes, the same thing Tiff was taking --- I asked her!) in a low dose and since I started taking it, I've only had one headache (today). One interesting thing I discovered at my doctor's appointment ---- my blood pressure was 120/80. This is still in the normal range, but a concern for me because my blood pressure has typically been very low (80/50)--- when I was an EMT at Cedar Point, the Safety Director sometimes had our medics check my blood pressure before they went out on a call because he thought if they could get my reading in the clinic, they'd be able to get a good reading on a patient in the field. The Topamax should also help keep my BP low and help out with some work-related anxiety I think I've been having. One of the side effects is also weight loss (I don't necessarily think I need this, but I definitely won't complain either). Overall, I think the medicine is helping, and it's been very nice to wake up without a headache every day!! I've been happier, more productive and sleeping a bit better. Yeah!
Molly was spayed on Wednesday this week. It was a bit rough for awhile --- I woke up at 5:30 on Wednesday to get her to the vet by 7:45 and had a very hard time sleeping that night because we had to keep an eye on her. Needless to say, it was a pretty long day. I was originally suppose to go to Norfolk for an all-day Association of Fundraising Professionals event, but the vet recommended that someone stay with Molly all day on Thursday. So, after a very restless night on Wednesday (I actually don't think I slept at all), I was up around 5 again and stayed awake to keep an eye on Molly until around 1:30 when Mike got home. Then I went in to work until about 6. I still didn't sleep that well Thursday night, and Friday was a kind of long day at work --- luckily last night I was able to come home and crash. I crawled into bed at 7pm after a good dinner and stayed curled up in blankets until 10 am this morning! It was wonderful :-) Molly is doing quite well -- the doctor's did a great job on the stitches --- she can't run, jump or play too much for 10 - 14 days, so she's getting a bit stir-crazy, but she's healing nicely and I think she'll be good to go on the early side of that time frame. I can't wait to play with her long and hard when she's all healed --- she deserves to run around like crazy!!!
This afternoon, Mike and I spent our afternoon at home with the dogs watching the OSU-Michigan game. The Bucks played great and won --- we've got our fingers crossed that everything falls into place for us to go to NO, but we're also happy with a trip to Pasadena and the Rose Bowl. For a building year, this was a great season! Tonight was game night at Brad & Andrea's, and it was a blast. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. We decided to leave the furry kids at home because of Molly's surgery, but hopefully we'll be able to take them the next time.
All in all, it's been a great weekend. I love relaxing time with good friends. It has me so excited for Mike's parents to arrive on Wednesday and our few short days in Ohio with family and friends at the end of December, and anxious for the next game night at Brad and Andrea's place. If only the weekends weren't 5 days long and the work weeks only 2 ..... ;-)

It was great to see you, if only for a short while, last night. Hopefully, next semester will be a little less hectic, but I doubt it. I took Topamax as well for migraines and they pretty much disappeared. Good luck. I'll e-mail you about plans for the next couple of months.
ReplyDeleteSo I read on one of your posts (I think) that you liked Starbucks' peppermint mochas. Since I looove peppermint patties, I reluctantly decided to give the peppermint mocha a chance hoping that it tasted somewhat similar to the candy. Well let me tell you, it exceeded my expectations...it was a peppermint patty in liquid form!!! I am addicted!
ReplyDeleteSo glad to hear that you may have some relief for your headaches! It was great to have you over! I'm already looking at when we could have the next game night!
ReplyDeleteJes,
ReplyDeleteI spent four glorious days without a computer. I felt like a new person. Get that monitor replaced (at work), and don't take work home. It's not worth it!
