I've come to realize that I always get sick at the most inopportune times. I know, there really isn't a good time to get sick ... but let me explain.
Last winter, I spent all of Christmas day wrapped up in a blanket on a couch. I skipped a delicious dinner with all of Mike's family in favor of saltine crackers and ginger ale. I did say hello to everyone and chat a bit, but spent considerable amounts of time in the restroom and with a tissue box in my hand. I don't think there is a single family picture including me, which may in fact be quite a blessing.
This April, about 3 weeks before my wedding, I woke up with a very tight feeling chest and immediately thought "great, just great." A trip to the doctor's office confirmed my fear: bronchitis. Luckily, I react well to Zithromax and the 5-day Z-pak cleared me up.
Now, about a week shy from Christmas, I'm sick again. On Tuesday, I was home from work with some sort of stomach issue. I spent the entire morning and afternoon curled up in our bed or "catching up" on "quality time" in our master bathroom. Luckily, Mike came home with chicken noodle soup, ginger ale and saltines -- on top of the 5 gallons of water (I'm only slightly exaggerating) I drank, that helped boot whatever little bug got to me right out. Then, last night I started getting congested and achy. My chest aches and feels tight again, but not nearly as much so as in April. My head hurts in the sinus pressure kind of way, I've go through a full box of tissues and my throat is scratchy. I've got my fingers crossed that rest, water and some NyQuil do the trick. I don't want to spend another Christmas under covers hugging tissues!
In better news.
All of our Christmas shopping is done (except one gift), so this weekend will be spent finishing some homemade projects, wrapping, baking, playing with puppies, writing Christmas cards and resting by the Christmas tree with a new book I'm reading and hot cocoa. It'll be the calm (maybe) before the storm -- our 5 day trip to Ohio to see both of our families for the holidays. I've come to appreciate the fact that Mike got any vacation time at all this year and am quite excited to see everyone, even if it is only for a brief while. I love the gifts we've found for everyone, love wrapping presents, love baking cookies (and this year I'm attempting to make Buckeyes!), love my puppies and love our Christmas tree. I seriously cannot wait for this weekend.
Or next. We'll be home!
Or the following. Friends are coming in from out of town!
See why this head cold must go away, quickly? :)
